grippage
a temporary installation in Silver Bay, Minnesota

Interested in the idea of regulating and providing protection within rugged spaces of nature, a trail of non-slip strips were installed across the rocky shoreline of Lake Superior to provide a ‘safer’ more gripping surface to walk on with wet feet. The strips create a linear pattern on the stones’ surface and provide a slightly effective, less slippery path on which to explore the rocks.  Although the security is very limited, the non-slip strips are at least the markings of a protecting effort, albeit a futile and ridiculous one.
